As the CTO of this eduTech startup, I spent a lot of time managing a great team of engineers and QA specialists from all over the world.I put processes in place to ensure smooth development, QA, deployment and maintenance of the team and of course, the product itself. So DevOps and sysAdmin was a large part of this. Tools such as Chef, Terraform, Capistrano and a few custom tools made all the difference, and I made these work for me and the team by creating tailored workflows and processes.Managing the product itself was also a large part of my job, so taking control of the development queue and backlog, and keeping on top of the requests coming in from users, and the company management (sales, marketing, etc.) was vital.As a very hards-on CTO, coding also took up a large part of my time. This included hacking away on the product itself, the micro-services based infrastructure, and the DevOps tooling around it all.

I was tasked with building a distributed team of engineers and QA to build the product from scratch, and settled on a Rails based, responsive web application, hosted on Heroku, and a Turbolinks iOS app. The application involved plenty of machine learning and algorithm work, as the platform was intended to adapt and respond in real time to users behaviour.I managed a small team distributed across the world, from China to the US west coast, and led all technology efforts to meet deadlines, and deliver quality, efficient code.
