I am Dr. Joel Pérez, executive and leadership coach, speaker, and consultant, passionate about helping leaders and organizations achieve their goals and develop a posture of cultural humility so they can have the impact and create the culture they desire. I do this by listening, bringing clarity, and providing support. While an undergraduate student I discovered that I was good at being a “bridge builder,” what I now know to be cultural humility. I also discovered that I had leadership potential which I began to develop during those years. This led me to pursue a vocation in higher education which became my home for over 30 years. In 2019 after serving as a C-Suite executive in higher education, I launched Apoyo Coaching and Consulting. Helping people develop their leadership potential through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) has always been my passion. The development of my cultural humility and leadership potential has led me to work with numerous individual clients as their executive and leadership coach, assisting them in leading exceptionally. It has also led me to serve as a consultant to organizations that want to develop organizational cultural humility so that they can become more inclusive and develop a sense of belonging that moves them from making performative statements to action. “Working with Joel was one of the most beneficial professional development investments we have made. We engaged with Joel to work with a group of senior leaders in our division, hoping to strengthen our sense of cultural humility and build a strong collective understanding amongst the group. Most importantly, Joel helped each of us deepen our own understanding, enabling us to strengthen our team and be more impactful in our work.”A Little Bit More about MeI identify as Mexican American and Spanish was my first language. I am a first-generation college graduate and son of immigrants from Mexico, living in Los Angeles again after having spent 9 years in the Pacific Northwest. Education has changed the trajectory of my life and has inspired me to be the coach and the leader I am today. My wife Jennifer and I have been married for over 26 years and have four children. I am a huge Los Angeles Dodgers fan and love watching films. My wife and I enjoy a good meal that usually includes anything Mexican or Asian.
