Facilitating active and responsive constituent service to improve quality of life for the residents of Detroit and Detroit's 6th City Council District.

I assist in the management of the helping hands that allow the organization to thrive, mostly by welcoming and integrating new members to our vast volunteer family, leading volunteers in hands-on outdoor projects, supporting special events, and smiling and thanking the patrons of our unique community for conserving, restoring, and celebrating the environment.

I attended policy & issue briefings for the legislative staff so that they could be better informed when composing policy memos for the Congressman, drafted constituent mail on a variety of issues, collaborated with the communications and legislative staff to update the Congressman's website, and worked with the Ways & Means Committee staff to write and publish an article on the estate tax in a major online publication.In addition, I also managed the front office, greeted and directed visitors, conducted constituent tours, compiled media clips, and handled mail, faxes, phone calls & the office's constituent correspondence database.

I was selected from a nationwide pool of hundreds of applicants to take part in this 12 week program in Washington, D.C. in which 18 individuals participated in weekly professional development seminars and workshops to strengthen relationship building. This amounted to great leadership training, getting familiarized with many new and diverse faces, learning how to network, and learning how to adapt to new surroundings.

– Facilitated communictions with and conducted interviews of prospective volunteers.– Managed volunteer calendar and database.– Directed volunteers in hands-on outdoor projects (invasive plant removal, planting, mulching, etc.)

– Assistant in the upkeep and maintenance of natural life, ranging from herbaceous flora in indoor greenhouses to more woody ecosystems in natural areas outdoors.– Primary Caretaker for the largest Peony collection in the western hemisphere.– Responsibilities included staking plants, deadheading, weeding, mulching, trimming, removing invasive species, girdling/applying herbicide to trees, brush-cutting, chain-sawing, wood-chipping, watering, cleaning, interacting with visitors, maintaining a site blog, and updating/improving database information.

I tended to the natural/aesthetic features of the golf course and country club through various hands on tasks not limited to mowing, edging, trimming, watering, fertilizing, and invasive species/waste removal.

I analyzed the process by which a socioeconomically disadvantaged urban community prepared itself for the construction of an international border crossing in their neighborhood. I attended community meetings and interviews, and transcribed data on housing, votes, and income. I also interacted with neighborhood community organizers, local political leadership, and representatives of interest groups.- As a freshman, I received a "Blue Ribbon Award" for outstanding poster presentation at the university's Undergraduate Research Symposium Event in April 2012.

– Responsible for the preparation of deep-fried food, bagging & completion of orders, keeping stock, and overall ensuring a smooth, clean transaction of quality product, with emphasis on the speed and efficiency of operation.
