Lead Technologist for the Customer Delivery Engineering team at Walsingham Operations Center

I'm a staff augment TA Designer for Duke Energy. It's a contract position so I still work for Pike, but I sit in a Duke office. I'm in Customer Delivery so it's high volume, small scale work. A lot different from the larger, months-long projects I'm used to but I'm enjoying the challenge and the diversity. It's a very customer facing role so I'm honing my public relations skills. I primarily design reconductor orders for Duke Energy Florida. Most of my work involves the deteriorated conductor program although I do enjoy an occasional SOG CNC job. While the bulk of my designs are overhead, I’m fluent in underground as well. Everything from cable replacement in single phase radials to boring new feeder ties beneath active rail lines.

FreeFab 3D is a team of friends who have come together to design and build 3D printers. Our primary customers are schools, libraries, and educational institutions. Our goal is to be known as the local experts for 3d printers in the Tampa Bay Area and the preferred choice for information, sales, service, and repair.Independently, each of us had our own 3D printers and had a range of experiences with the different models. Each of the founders of FreeFab 3D brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge with them, particularly from the printing industry. Between us, we have a number of years working in engineering, electronics, product design, software development and marketing – this, and the passion we have for making stuff, makes a great team.

I design storm hardening plans for the FP&L electrical distribution network. These projects will then be worked by Pike Electric construction crews as part of the "Design-Build" program. It's really interesting work and I'm putting my knowledge of construction methods and my billing experience, along with my contacts in those areas, to good use. My goal, as well as the program goal, is to hand construction a job that they can actually build as it is designed.

Supervised eight crews (consisting of 3 to 5 personnel each) performing both pole replacement and reconductor work for Duke Energy and Verizon. Enforced compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations. Inspected completed projects for quality and assigned rework as necessary. Tracked progress on larger projects and reported to customer weekly. Communicated and coordinated effectively with scheduling, project managers, designers, and inspectors; often balancing resources to meet competing completion dates. Managed logistical concerns including vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair, tool maintenance and replacement or repair, and safety equipment maintenance and replacement schedules. Responsible for hiring, training, evaluation, promotion, career progression, recordkeeping, payroll reporting, disciplinary action, counseling, and termination of 30+ employees.

Worked directly with corporate contract administrators to correct errors in contract terms and prices. Analyzed work by region, tracked P&L, implemented changes to improve productivity and efficiency. Inspected construction for compliance with design standards. Assigned rework as needed. Inventoried labor and material on completed projects to generate billing. Work without supervision and minimal guidance, set own priorities to meet company goals.

Supervised a 5-man crew on large reconductor projects.

Cleared for TS/SCI. Attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5). Served with the 1st Infantry Division during Operation Desert Storm.
