Lead Mechanic Specialist
CurrentMy role is multifaceted and crucial to the company's operations. My close collaboration with the Chief Mechanical Officer enables us to conduct comprehensive onsite investigations of commercial vehicle and train collisions. During these visits, I meticulously inspect various components such as the rolling stock, head unit(s), right of way, and other pertinent areas. Every detail matters; I document all observed damages with precision and ensure that photographic evidence is captured for thorough record-keeping.Drafting comprehensive initial reports is a significant aspect of my job. In these reports, I outline our findings, provide details of the damages, and estimate the required repairs. One of the responsibilities I have is auditing the Billing Repair Cards of the rolling stock. It's essential to ensure that all repair charges are in line with the standards set by the American Association of Railroads (AAR) Field Manual.Additionally, I delve deep into analyzing rail crossing inventory, various state and federal laws related to right-of-way and rail crossings, and an assortment of publications. I primarily utilize public source datasets to guarantee our thorough understanding and compliance. My proudest achievements in this role include discovering a public resource that provides updated insurance data for all commercial trucking companies in North America. This discovery has significantly enhanced our marketing capabilities, especially to insurance firms following vehicle/train collisions. Moreover, I've managed to save our insurance clients millions by optimizing repair costs across various assets like railroad equipment, crossings, and the right of way.
