As a partner in the Business Law Group at Goodmans, my practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and corporate and commercial law. I have an extensive and varied business law practice, which includes mergers and acquisitions, financings as well as franchising, licensing and distribution arrangements, shareholder and partnership arrangements and employment agreements. My experience includes working with non-Canadian clients with existing interests in Canada or with plans to establish a Canadian presence. In particular, I have had the opportunity to advise and represent many clients in connection with the Investment Canada Act, Canada’s foreign investment review legislation. Much of my practice involves matters on behalf of multinational clients and cross-border matters and I have advised clients in numerous public and private merger and acquisition transactions.From 1977 to 1979, I held the position of senior rulings officer at Canada’s Foreign Investment Review Agency (the predecessor to Investment Canada). In 1988, I was retained by Canada’s Trade Negotiation Office as a legal advisor to the Canadian government and participated directly in the negotiation and drafting of The Free Trade Agreement with the United States.Ranked as a leading lawyer in Competition – Investment Canada law by Chambers Global’s Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers, I also co-authored The Free Trade Agreement – A Comprehensive Guide.
