• Conduct the ethical review of human subjects research (in Social Sciences - e.g. Psychology, Sociology, and Political Science) ensuring that research participants’ safety, rights, & welfare are protected• Hold consultations for faculty, researchers, and students to provide advice and direction to facilitate the ethical conduct and approval of their study(s); especially for research that fall within the grey intersection of Human Biomedical Research (as defined by the Human Biomedical Research Act) and Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research • Ensure existing policies, processes, and documents are updated to be aligned and in compliance with local & overseas laws/regulations• Establish networks with other IRBs’ point of contacts, and engage with relevant government agencies to ensure SMU research is in compliance with local laws - e.g. Human Biomedical Research Act (HBRA), Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)
