✋🏿✋✋🏾 for the dignity & worth of all persons ✋🏾✋🏻✋As a disability social worker at Grace Orchard School, Joel dons many hats—from developing programmes and building community partnerships to facilitating therapeutic play with children and walking alongside caregivers in their capacity-building. Shaped by his lived experience as a father and brother to loved ones with disabilities, Joel brings a compassionate and collaborative approach that views his practice as a learning process to develop new ways of thinking and meaning-making. Adopting a systemic and social constructionist lens, he believes in the life-giving potential of individuals, communities, and organisations coming together for thoughtful social change. A learner at heart, Joel holds a B.Soc.Sci. (Honours) in Social Work and a Postgraduate Certificate in Systems Thinking and Approaches. He is also pursuing a Master of Management specialising in non-profit management. As an aspiring π(pi)-shaped thinker-practitioner, Joel hopes to deepen his approach in drawing from the complementary worlds of social work and management studies—ultimately to appreciate the complexity and interconnectedness of assets/challenges within the disability space that might enable the co-designing of holistic solutions that drive sustainable change.Outside of work, Joel delights in poring through books as a way to enrich his worldview with a multiverse of perspectives. Usually, you'll also see him with coffee in hand—of which the best would be any natural processed filter, especially if he brewed it himself.
