Publisher And Editorial Director
Founder And Editor
I started one5c, an optimistic, action-focused climate publication because I believe that anyone who has any ability to help humanity survive the climate emergency has an obligation to get cracking. My skills are that I can build audiences and tell them compelling stories. With every newsletter, one5c serves up deeply reported pieces that focus on achievable, realistic changes you can make to your life that will lower your impact on the planet.

Board Member
Group Editorial Director
Hearst brought me in to improve production value, increase collaboration, and help all three brands—Car and Driver, Road & Track, and Autoweek—develop content strategies for a future beyond advertising. I helped turn Road & Track into the centerpiece of a membership program. At Autoweek, we created a new strategy that filled a gap in Hearst Autos' portfolio: industry info and tech deep dives. At Car and Driver, I pushed the team to address not just sheet metal, but the issues modern car-buyers care about, like automakers’ stances on social issues. This strategic shift won Car and Driver its first National Magazine Award.
Editor In Chief And Vp, Editorial Director
My pitch for PopSci was to transform the print product from a 10x periodical into a quarterly keepsake, and shift the bulk of the team’s focus to digital. We did that and more. In addition to creating an ASME-winning magazine (2019), we grew our digital audience by creating stories for underserved readers. Between 2016 and 2017, we doubled web traffic, shifting our audience’s gender balance from 26% female to 51% female in the space of a year.Based on my impact at PopSci, I was made VP Editorial Director in charge of Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, and Saveur. I led all three publications through redesigns, and set up shared services departments that freed up editorial resources for writers and editors.
Executive Editor
In addition to running tech coverage in the magazine, I oversaw WIRED’s digital platforms. When I arrived, WIRED.com was competing with blogs and newspapers for low-value news items. I worked with the staff to focus on unique content instead. The mantra was “ask the smartest question first”—rather than rush to publish the same news that everyone else had. This strategy gained us an audience upwards of 20 million monthly unique visitors and paved the way for our paywall launch in 2015. On YouTube, our team collaborated with the centralized Condé Nast Entertainment group to achieve more than a million subscribers with unique shows like “WIRED’s Google Autocorrect Interview.” We saw similar growth on Instagram, Snap, and Twitter, by making sure that each of these platforms was thoughtfully programmed instead of used as alternative RSS feeds.
Deputy Editor
Editor-In-Chief
When I joined Gizmodo, my ambition was to bring magazine-style packaging and journalism to the blogosphere. I saw that audiences were starting to expect the same quality from their daily online publications as they did from their daily newspapers (this was 2010), so we changed the publishing cadence to support high-production-value content. We hired investigative reporters, artists, and columnists, and created daily departments and longform stories. This resulted in less spiky traffic and consistent, sustained growth.
