Currently working as the Lead Social Innovator with the Waikato Wellbeing Project leveraging off the UN SDG's framework to bridge bottom up with top down participatory development practices.I work using a human rights lens to focus in on how equitable and sustainable opportunities can be achieved through partnerships, co-design, empowerment and community led practices. I am an advocate for social justice and a passionate change-maker with an innate skill for building and maintaining authentic and value based relationships. I have 19 years of professional and lived experiences across education (teaching), human rights activism, youth and community led development, local and regional government advising, social innovation, partnership/stakeholder account management and corporate social responsibility innovation. I combine all these skills to lobby for and influence systems/policy change to work towards an equitable, fair and just society. Working across the UK, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand in all sectors of society I am passionate about celebrating diversity, challenging power structures and creating space for those voices which need the most amplification and are often overlooked or ignored.Oh yeah...and I was a busking singer songwriter for five years living in 8 different vans in multiple countries engaging with the homeless, disenfranchised and poor. Sharing songs, sharing stories and sharing perspectives is my driving passion so people can feel seen, heard and understood. I have learned more from this experience than any course, degree, professional environment has provided me. The gap between real life and theory is my jam!

Singer-SongwriterJoe Wilson Music Aug 2014 - Sep 2018Brighton, United KingdomIndependent and travelling singer-songwriter living and moving between New Zealand, Australia and Europe. In each place I have worked within communities alongside local groups on educational projects and in the service and health and well-being sectors, whilst continually writing and performing my music. Lived and travelled in a van for four years and lived alongside many homeless communities whilst writing and performing music; the wide range of societal inequalities I experienced through busking and travelling in colonized countries played a large part in my choice to study Human Rights and Development.
