About Joe Myre
Joe is the Senior Manager of Applications at NextSilicon where he is working to revolutionize HPC.Joe was previously an Assistant Professor (early tenure and promotion to Associate starting Fall 2021) at the University of St. Thomas. In this role he primarily teaches Computer Architecture, and has also taught Introduction to Programming, Software Engineering, and Data Acquisition and Analysis. He has also mentored 8 students in HPC research using graphics processing units (GPUs) and CUDA. His work with students has yielded 6 publications (two of which were nominated for best paper awards). He has published 9 additional papers beyond his work with students.Before joining the University of St. Thomas, Joe spent two years at the University of Arkansas as a National Science Foundation Earth Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellow, where he created high-performance fluid dynamics simulations for distributed GPUs to study the creation and evolution of surface features on cave walls.Prior to his time in academia, Joe worked for Cray Inc. as a graduate student intern, where he developed high-performance libraries to ease GPU adoption and use in Cray HPC environments.Joe received his Ph.D. in Computer Science with a concentration in Geophysics from the University of Minnesota in 2013, where he created high-performance computational tools for investigating the physics of geologic systems. He also earned a B.S. in Computer science with minors in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.
