As part of the metering and technology team, I get to make an impact every day as we aim to provide solutions to utilities looking to transition to a newer, smarter water framework.Although water is our planet's most valuable resource, many have little to no understanding of what processes are required to get it to your tap. Water conservation often only gets mentioned in times of drought, and the attitude of water ignorance has led to an incredibly aged infrastructure in the U.S., with some cities still using wooden distribution lines or lacking metering. It is an incredible experience seeing the ways we can transform systems to make sure California's water is being maximized in distribution, usage, and treatment, and something I am proud to contribute to. While it may not have been as academically oriented as my previous experiences, the responsibility of overseeing a team of 250+ employees to ensure top-quality food and service demanded effective delegation, assertiveness, and a collaborative mindset.Having worked in nearly every role at the coffee house, from cashier to barista to pizza chef, I gained extensive knowledge and honed my attention to detail. As a result, I took on the role of instructing new hires and recently promoted supervisors, providing them with the skills and guidance needed for success. The ASUCD Coffee House, the largest dining facility at UC Davis—an institution recognized among the top 100 in the nation for on-campus food—relies on the decisive leadership of managers and supervisors to maintain its student-run nature, even with its significant size and yearly turnover.Supervising at the ASUCD Coffee House allowed me to develop critical leadership abilities while also valuing and incorporating the ideas of others.
