I am a leading authority on the advisory industry and a strategic advisor to boutique consultancies. I have researched, taught, written about and practiced management consulting for over twenty years. My textbook on Management Consulting, with Oxford University Press, was the best-selling book on this topic in the world, and my most recent book on growing boutique consultancies won an award from the Centre for Management Consulting Excellence. My training courses for consultants & MBAs recently won a national award from the British Academy of Management, and three University ‘teaching excellence’ prizes.I have advised several large consultancies on innovation, including KPMG and IBM, and have helped over 100 boutique consultancies improve their revenues. In addition, I was the first academic Fellow of the International Council of Management Consultancy Institutes, am a Fellow of the CIPD and the Advanced Institute of Management, and a Member of the Institute of Consulting. I have won over £450,000 of research awards including three prestigious ESRC awards to study innovation in the consulting industry.

I co-founded and am now Chair of Repair Cafe Wales - an environmental non-profit which starts, runs and supports Repair Cafes in Wales. Repair Cafes reduce CO2 emissions, build communities, and improve mental health by matching people that need things fixed with people that can fix them for free. We grew the firm to 90 Repair Cafes in Wales in four years, recruiting nearly a thousand volunteers.

The CMCE bridges the gap between academic research and consulting practice to help consultants increase the value of what they deliver. I am helping with their strategy development.

I was the co-founder and owner of a high growth telco supplier with strong IP. I wrote and won the patent on the product and raised seed capital for the start-up, and successfully negotiated with brands such as Virgin and O2. We appeared on BBC 2's Dragons' Den in 2006 and sold the company to PowaPoint in 2007.
