As the executive director of Rivier - a venture by NS, RET and HTM - I had the overall responsibility for creating, implementing and integrating the company's strategy. In partnership with Siemens Mobility, Rivier develops an open B2B MaaS-platform (power strip) that lets mobility providers plug in on one side and MaaS-providers on the other, thus giving them access to a complete range of services through one sole technical connection.The platform allows MaaS-providers to offer integrated planning, booking and payment options to their customers for all types of transport: both public, private and shared as well as all possible combinations of those. They can do so using their own app or an optional white label app developed by Rivier.With its activities Rivier aims to be the catalyst for the realisation of MaaS, letting people travel flexibly and effortlessly across all modes of transport.

I lead the team responsible for the development and continuous redevelopment of the company wide NS strategy. The strategy team develops and maintains the strategy, but also builds a structure for strategy translation into concrete action plans for the different business units. Integrality is the key word here: with my team I saw to it that implementation at all company levels was in harmony with the overarching concern strategy.From April 2019 up to January 2020 I also headed the innovation team on an ad interim basis, which has a leading role on horizon 2 innovations (expanding business), as well as horizon 3 innovations (disruptive innovation). Furthermore, the team facilitates the business units with horizon 1 innovation (optimizing existing products and services).

Rotterdam Area, Netherlands

As the head of the NS control center in Rotterdam (100+ FTE), I was responsible for the secure and timely navigation of trains and train personnel in the Southern Randstad area, which covers the hubs in Leiden, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Dordrecht, Breda, Roosendaal and Vlissingen. Leading up to this role I participated in the Navigator talent development program intended for future top management within NS.

As the company secretary to the Board of Directors and Supervisory Board of NS Groep N.V., I was responsible for the efficient administration of the company, corporate governance issues and for ensuring that decisions of the Board of Directors were implemented, through communications with top level management within the various business units, works council, corporate staff and (external) advisors. I was the linchpin in the triangular relationship between the two boards and the Ministry of Finance as sole shareholder. A thorough knowledge of the affairs and way of working of both boards was key for my success in this role.

In this position I advised and litigated on all matters regarding regulatory affairs and competition policy. Furthermore I was responsible for external legal stakeholder management, including ProRail, law enforcement agencies such as the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM), international authorities, amongst which the European Commission (DG Competition) and other key players in the industry.

I was a member of the editorial board of the Dutch Journal for State Aid Law, in which capacity I wrote and reviewed articles on developments regarding state aid.

In my work for the website complianceactualia.nl I wrote and reviewed articles on developments in the field of business compliance.

Rotterdam Area, Netherlands

For Scobe I organized masterclasses on ‘State Aid Law in the context of Area Development’ for real estate professionals (lawyers, economists and project managers).

During my time at ACM I managed projects regarding cartels and other infringements of the competition rules, reviewed mergers and acquisitions, designed (model) compliance manuals and developed lobbying strategies. Moreover, I was a delegate to the advisory committee on restrictive agreements and dominant positions for the European Commission, a member of the ACM expert-committee on substantive law and I participated in the ACM front runner program.

The Hague Area, Netherlands

At Pels Rijcken I advised and litigated on the substantive and procedural aspects of European law, first as a junior lawyer, later as senior counsel. This included competition law, state aid, regulated markets, public procurement law and PPP’s, with a focus on the sectors ‘energy’, ‘transport’, ‘construction’ and ‘agriculture’.
