After 12 years of clinical practice as an employed physician, I opened Pazona MD during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in August 2020 in downtown Nashville. I believe the U.S. healthcare system is broken, and I knew it was time for me to start building a different type of clinical practice. One that solved physician/provider burnout, bloated administration, and lack of patient access to the right provider. Our mission is to provide accessible health care with a smile. Our priority is our healthcare team, because I know that a healthy work culture is essential to foster the delivery of an exceptional healthcare experience for our patients.With no MBA or formal business experience, I have experienced numerous challenges as an entrepreneur. Declining reimbursement from insurance, increasing overhead, complex regulatory and credentialing processes, and establishing a new brand in a competitive market (Nashville). However, I have learned from my mistakes and have prioritized hiring A+ team members as we scale our business throughout the middle Tennessee region. Our core values of Gratitude, Resourcefulness, Accessibility, Curiosity and Exceptionalism guide the actions of our team on a daily basis.Our team has also leveraged telemedicine applications, virtual assistants, remote workers, and cash concierge services to build a profitable but ethical healthcare business that is primed to scale into other specialties and regions. Having practiced medicine in rural and under served communities for over a decade, I witnessed firsthand the challenges of not having enough specialists to treat patients in rural America. 60% of U.S. counties don't have a urologist. Only 300 urologists a year finish residency training in the U.S. 90% of these graduates practice in our around mid to large size metropolitan service areas. It's a simple supply and demand problem.In 2020 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I founded VirtuCare to bridge this lack of access to urologists utilizing telemedicine. Then once the pandemic began, I saw telemedicine gain further traction. Although VirtuCare began as a direct-to-consumer platform, we struggled to scale without the capital required to build brand awareness. In 2021, our team pivoted and developed an innovative collaborative care model with rural healthcare systems. Our model provides a board-certified urologist, licensed in the appropriate state, to train and guide APPs (e.g. nurse practitioners) as they learn to deliver outpatient urological care. We then travel on-site to perform surgical procedures in the clinic and operating room. It has been challenging to gain the attention of healthcare executives, however, we have successfully launched our model thanks to visionary CEOs with 3 rural healthcare systems. Our model delivers the same exceptional patient care at our brick and mortar practice Pazona MD in Nashville, but leverages telemedicine to expand into rural markets. Our model has created a new urology position (tele-urologist) which allows urologists no longer in traditional employment models, to continue utilizing their knowledge and wisdom from the comfort of their home.I'm honored to lead VirtuCare as we continue to scale into other specialties and regions.

I was recruited to become the first Chief of Urology and Head of Robotic Surgery at UAB Baptist South Multispecialty Clinic. At that time, Baptist South was one of the largest hospitals in the U.S. not performing any robotic surgeries. There were no full-time practicing urologists at the time of my fire.I had the challenge of recruiting additional urologists and collaborating with multi-layered hospital administration in an under served community. The position taught me patience, resiliency and negotiation skills.

After finishing my residency training, I joined the urology group at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center (WVMC) in 2008. In 2010, I helped to bring robotic-assisted surgery the greater Wenatchee area and performed the 1st robotic-assisted prostatectomy in central Washington state.WVMC ultimately merged with Central Washington Hospital to become Confluence Health, an independent multi-specialty clinic. I was fortunate to work alongside 4 exceptional urologists who were great partners and mentors as grew from a young surgeon to one with a few grey hairs. During my time at Confluence Health I learned the joys and obstacles of living and practice medicine in a rural community. I was taught humility and partnership which has served me throughout my career. Ultimately it was time for me to grow in my career outside of Wenatchee, but I view my time at Confluence with great memories as it provided a foundation for my future career endeavors.
