Correctional Officer in the Jail Division

Main job duties include the total staff and offender supervision of the Goodman Unit, within the prison environment. Responsible for 5 Sergeants, 101 Correctional Officers and 603 Offenders. Responsible for overall compliance of rules and regulations for both staff and offenders, including security, protection and training. Responsible for training all staff on everyday aspects of their job functions to include safety. Responsible for ensuring that everyday security needs are met and that all offenders housed within the Goodman Unit housing stay within their confined parameters. Responsible for 12 head counts a day, and that any and all offenders abide by all rules and regulations that have been set by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice. Also responsible for ensuring that all staff below my supervision adhere to the same guidelines and those set by the Employee Rules of Conduct. Also act as the Minor Disciplinary Officer, trying minor court cases on offenders who have been found in violation of rules and regulations. RETIRED in Nov 2021 with 29 years and 6 months of state service from the Gib Lewis Unit as my last unit of assignment

Appointed by the Unit Warden. Responsible for overall compliance of day-to-day unit operations as written by agency policy. Responsible for conducting 10+ internal audits a month on various departments within the prison unit. Assisted the Unit Warden inconducting all regional audit reviews. Responsible for ensuring that 100+ Correctional Officers and 30+ Supervisors in various departments including security were following and ensuring that their departments were in compliance with agency policy. Conductedinvestigations into offender misconduct regarding policy violations and contraband interdiction. Conducted investigations into allegations made by offenders who requested protection or who felt their life was in danger. Conducted mandatory monthly drug testingof 600 +offenders on a random basis (35 Quarterly). Also assisting in running shifts when short of supervisors.

Responsible for 5 Sergeants, 24 Correctional Officers and 302 Offenders. Responsible for overall compliance of rules andregulations for both staff and offenders, including security, protection and training.Responsible for training all staff on everyday aspects of their job functions to include safety. Responsible for ensuring that everyday security scheduling needs are met and that all offenders housed within the Trusty Camp housing units stay within their confinedparameters. Responsible for 12 head counts a day, and that any and all offenders abide by all rules and regulations that have been set by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice. Also responsible for ensuring that all staff below my supervision adhere to the same guidelines and those set by the Employee Rules of Conduct. Also supervised as a Building Lieutenant when needed with a total of 120 Officers and 10 Sergeants supervised and 1193 offenders.

Responsible for monthly safety training for both offenders and officers, assisting the Lieutenant in all the daily activities to include count, programmatic and non-programmaticactivities. Also responsible for the monthly evaluations of officers. Responsible for ensuring that all officers and offenders adhere to the guidelines of AD 3.72(Offender Property Storage and Confiscation) and AD 10.20(Safety and Sanitation). I was also responsible for ensuring that all officers adhere to PD-22(Employees Standard ofConduct)and security policies. I was responsible for ensuring that the Trusty Camp count board and offender hall cards were current and correct. Responsible for investigating offender disciplinaries written by officers. Responsible for investigating allegationsor claims by offenders in regards to Life Endangerment and complaints alleged by offenders towards staff, ensuring overall safety of both offenders and staff at all times. Insure that all off unit offender transports are completed in a timely and professional manner. Responsible for ensuring that all officers and offenders adhere tothe guidelines of AD 3.72(Offender Property Storage and Confiscation) and AD 10.20(Safety and Sanitation). I was also responsible for ensuring that all officers adhere to PD-22.Conducted investigation into offender and employee violations to include offender life endangerment situations. Upheld proper policy and procedures with visitors and offenders during visitation periods to include conducting investigations of introduction of contraband into a penal facility in a professional manner. Conducted employee training on Use of Force, Offender/Officer confrontations, Emergency situations, Escape procedures, Key control, Two-way radio procedures, Responding to emergency situations, Countprocedures, Offender ingress-egress procedures and Offender traffic control. Building Security, responsible for security over offenders on various duty posts. This includes being trained in all key areas of the building while assigned to the Ramsey II Unit. These key areas include: Searcher's Desk, Radio Picket, AdministrativeSegregation, Punitive Segregation, Key Officer, Picket Officer, Mobile Patrol Officer, all of which I have numerous hours of working experience. Appointed by the shift Lieutenant as one of the key training officers on shift training new incoming officers on shift invarious key areas. Awarded the following certificate: Outstanding Work Performance-October 1998Attended 40 hour in-service training for fiscal year 1998, 1999, 2000. Was promoted to Sergeant of Correctional Officers in December of 2000.

Responsible for overall assigned tasks as deemed by the unit Asst Warden A. Collins. Supervisory capacity over 12 offenders, including scheduling days off, assigned tasks,ordering of supplies needed to complete tasks, and monthly safety training. Most tasksassigned involved the painting of any an all areas of the Ramsey II Prison Unit. Receiveda "Exceeds Standards" annual performance evalutaion. Responsible for maintaining overall security over 875+ offenders assigned to the RamseyII Unit. Responsible for maintaining overall security while assigned to various dutyposts within the Ramsey II Unit. This includes being trained as a primary radio picketoperator, trained as a key officer, searchers desk/center hall officer and AdministrativeSegregation officer.
