Nordic Gold Inc. (formally Firesteel Resources Inc.) is a Canadian based Exploration, Development and Mining Company which wholly owns the Subsidiary Nordic Gold OY and the Laiva Gold Mine in Finland. Reporting to the CEO & Board, manages all operational and technical aspects of Laiva Gold Mine and associated projects in Finland. Succeeded in recommissioning operations on time and within budget to become a gold producer. Establishment of project team and recruiting for operations, execution of preliminary economic assessment (PEA) plan, recommissioning processing and mining operations, cost control, compliance, regulatory approvals, community engagement, media relations and established health, safety and human resource management systems. Developed EUR 80m operational budget and exploration strategies.

Angas Zinc Mine is an underground sub-level open stoping operation with a two-stage flotation concentration. I was recruited into the role to drive performance to achieve cost objectives and return the mine to compliance. Managed a dedicated team of mining professionals to extend the mine life by 50%, increased production rates through the mill by 10%, improved metallurgical recoveries up by 3%, improve concentrate quality and brought an ongoing water management issue into compliance. During this period the mine ran at an operating profit and exceeded set safety and production targets. The mine was closed and is maintained in a C&M phase. The GM role included interaction with a group of community representatives who were dissatisfied with the companies performance against Lease conditions. As a result of ongoing non-compliance the regulators had placed an Environmental Edict upon the operation with a pending non-compliance fine of A$250,000. Through good engineering application and problem solving, I ensured the water issue was brought into compliance within 12 months, avoiding the fine and mending relationships with both the community and regulator. At the end of the operation Angas was in full compliance, had broken production and processing records and had a employee turnover < 2%.From August to October 2013 the very disheartening process of redundancies for our excellent workforce was rolled out. Through preemptive communication and open discussions the work force of 115 people were made redundant without any industrial action or outcry from community groups or the workforce.

RBS in South Africa was a research and contracting company focussed on developing a continuous mining solution in large underground mines based on non-explosive technology. Unfortunately the solution was not found. An interesting story supporting the benefit of due diligence.

RBS was an arm of Brandrill Australia specialising in sensitive rock breaking for excavation and treatment of over size.
