With nearly ten years of experience in the Detroit non-profit sector, I strive to provide leadership in the revitalization of Detroit and Southeast Michigan through community-based and city-led efforts. I have experience in community engagement & outreach, programmatic development and creative problem solving. I have a passion for the City of Detroit's parks system, and with the 2010 closure of 77 community parks, I was inspired to establish the Detroit Parks Coaltion. The Coalition has fought to reopen and advocate for park maintenance, which are an asset to each neighborhood and community. A lifelong Detroiter, I have experienced and witnessed the ebb and flow of change in our communities, and am excited to work beside my neighbors and colleagues to help our city and region flourish.

Community OrganizerSouthwest Solutions Aug 2009 - Sep 2010Detroit, MiOrganized with three local school community organizations (LSCO) and Our Kids Come First parent organizing group, who fought to demolish 50 houses within the Southwest Detroit neighborhood in nine months. I also provided technical assistance to the Hubbard Farms Neighborhood in their fight to save historic homes from demolition. I have worked extensively with Bridgewatch Detroit, a community watchdog group that focuses on holding the Detroit International Bridge Company accountable for their conduct of business, and educating many people on the issues surrounding the Ambassador Bridge and working with the Southwest Detroit Community Benefits Coalition to ensure residents voices were heard. I also successfully secured donations to aid the rehab of the Riverside Park Extension, which had not been used in almost ten years. Upon completion of its rehab, Riverside Park was host to ten People's League Softball games, one Detroit City Futbol League game and served as a practice field at times for Western High School (PSL Champs) and the Detroit Bee's Little League Team, in addition to public use. I had the pleasure of collaborating with many organizations that serve on the Southwest Detroit Development Collaborative's Housing Committee in regards to the Southwest Detroit Demolition Policy, which submitted documentation of over 130 blighted and abandoned houses that required demolition in order to stabilize and provide a safe and secure environment for the surrounding community. Lastly, I served as a member of Community Legal Resources Board Up Coalition and was able to submit requests for board up of nearly 50 homes to ensure they are no longer a nuisance to the community. -
