I like to build stuff, from Lego and woodwork as a kid, Basic and Turbo Pascal programs as a teen, 3D animations and custom PCs as a student, software products, games, and teams as a professional and finally sourdough bread even before the pandemic. Currently my role as Senior Project Manager at Weta Digital comes with several different hats. I am responsible for one of the R&D teams and their projects, larger change projects like Python 3, rollout of new DCC versions as well as coordinating some larger meetings across the R&D group.In the past I have helped form teams, introduced agile methods, build up software from ground up and changed software development practices. I have also owned products, implemented monetization, rolled out new products and established a product lifecycle management. Each new job brought its own set off challenges, people, and technology and allowed me to grow continuously. Some of my job highlights were:• Create a 3D animation at the end of university that won me a small award (Animago).• Shaping a simple 3D software into a product portfolio at RTT (now 3DEXCITE).• Rolling out a new MMO all over Europe in 7 different languages in record time at Gameforge.• Walking the length or New Zealand (https://www.teararoa.org.nz/).• Implementing a new Katana pipeline for Lighting at Weta Digital.• Becoming a Level 1 CrossFit coach despite being way too old for this stuff…My current approach to life and work is that attitude and foundations matter more than anything else. Be it basic nutrition for a health life, a strong core for sport, a good infrastructure for software, or a strong culture and leadership for the health of a company. If the attitude and the foundational approaches are sound, everything else can be achieved.
