I joined FSMS in August 2010 as the first employee with the mandate to design and develop a scalable web-based service for South African's to send ad-sponsored SMS messages absolutely Free. In the following weeks, I built a minimum viable product (MVP) and by November, we had launched and grown our active user base to more than 20.000 customers. In December, The company was able to raise a sizeable first round of funding and I became the Technical Director of the company.As the Technical Director, my roles included, to:- design and maintain a scalable architecture for the service- plan and prioritise the development of new features - manage a team of mid-level and junior developers - plan and oversee the outsourcing of development - dive in and get my hands dirty, if we had to iterate quickly or resolve critical issuesIn the following months, the service grew to more than 450.000 users and we delivered in excess of 24 Million messages.
