About Joe Rovito

I am an Engineering Leader with broad product design experience spanning multiple industries and technologies with deep experience in electronics, sensors, motion control, circuit design, high speed interfaces, and real time embedded systems. I have worked in companies large & small and have run my own electronic product design/manufacturing firm. I have managed both HW Development teams and test teams. Most recently, I managed a Power/Motherboard Quality organization in Microsoft Surface consisting of 4 managers & 35 ICs. My unique strengths are building/maintaining a performative org and solving difficult technical challenges. I prioritize creating a continuous learning and improvement environment for my teams. I am seeking a role as Hardware Engineering Manager or Director in New Product Development or Test but would consider a Principal IC role in a project that closely aligns with my interests and expertise.*Interests*Automation, Robotics, machines that chomp, spit, cut, draw, display, drill, or otherwise fabricate. In my first job out of school I integrated & programmed an industrial robot in a vertical extrusion press at a brass mill in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Later, after several successful pen plotter designs (HW+FW), I built a series of industrial pantograph retrofit kits that automated and streamlined a formerly manual process with a 2.5 axes motion control system. In 2010 I built a series of sensor test robots and automation tools that tested all of the sensors on a smart-phone. In 2013 I designed a 32-fingered robot for smart-phone touch screen testing. It types faster than a teen attacking a TikTok troll - up to 8 characters per second. The patented multi-touch actuator + camera when combined with X-Y table, was small, inexpensive, and scalable. It featured sub-pixel resolution, accuracy, repeatability and was blindingly fast. It enabled touch screen characterization, system level testing, and even user interface automation. *Expertise*Design for Manufacturing & Test, Battery Powered Devices, Mobile Devices, Solid State Sensors, Stepper Motors & Drivers, Kinematics & multi-axes motion control, High Speed I/F (USB2-3-4, TBT3, PCIe, DRAM), USB-C PD, Opto-Isolated I/O, Multiplexed LEDs, Opto-electronics, Low-cost A/D Conversion Techniques, RF/IR Remote control, Electronic Prototyping, EMI emissions control & susceptibility, AC Power Electronics, Digital Signal Processing, LCD Interactive Products, Verilog HDL, Extrusion, Injection Molding, PCB Layout, Micro-controller assembly programming.

Listed skills include Testing, Hardware, Pcb Design, Embedded Systems, and 44 others.
