I was able to transform the engineering culture at Applied AI, from a collection of developers working under the direction of a lead architect, to a highly collaborative group with multiple high performancing teams. The Extreme Tuesday Club (XTC) is an informal meetup group based in London. Started in 1999 by Stephen Freeman, Ivan Moore and many others (inspired by Kent Beck's Extreme Programming ideas) - it is the oldest agile meetup group within London. I've been an attendee since 2006. In 2015 I took over managing the group.In 2017 I tweaked the format slightly and raised awareness of the club (thanks to some high profile appearances from Kent Beck, Rachel Davies, Liz Keogh and others). As a result, XTC has regained a lot of old members and a large number of new members (generally 30-50 attendees per event)

Responsibilities spanned requirements specification, design and architecture, coding, testing and build infrastructure. I worked many roles within the TIM Group:- Developer on TIM Ideas, a global alpha capture network for trade idea distribution, evaluation and management.- Tools and development infrastructure manager, where I managed and upgraded a large farm of continuous integration build and browser slaves.- Developer on TIM Funds, an analytics and portfolio management application for funds of hedge funds.- Helped design, manage and implement a number of Scala Play applications including Ideas FX, Futures Roll, Investor Allocation, DPM, and Fundamental PM- Acted as facilitator for other team retrospectives

Worked in a technical architect role in a large JEE project for implementing new Liquidity products, including negotiating story definition with the Product Owner, definition of a technical architecture, class design and implementation, and mentoring developers in agile techniques, including TDD.

Designed and implemented a continuous integration solution for mainframe developers, using a Java based build tool, and Perforce for version control. This project was the first of its kind, integrating mainframe code and compilers with a modern continuous integration platform. The final implementation involved a large amount of training and mentoring of developers who were unfamiliar with agile techniques.

I maintained and enhanced a front end trading systems written in Delphi. This application was responsible for displaying a trader's portfolio, along with real-time prices, P&L, as well as a host of other useful statistics required by the trader (for example, the calculated Black-Scholes values for options).In addition to the above, I also maintained and enhanced an automated reconciliation tool written in Java, and used by the operations team. This tool had multiple components responsible for different tasks. These included automatically connecting to broker servers and retrieving position and trade reports, reconciling internal and external trade positions, and reporting discrepancies to the end users via a Swing GUI. The GUI communicated to a back end server running on Tomcat, using Servlets and JSPs.I have been involved in championing modern development practices, such as automated builds and continuous integration using Cruise Control.

I worked on SPSS Clementine, a powerful Data Mining and Predictive Analysis tool. Clementine allows users to easily manipulate many powerful and complex statistical models, allowing an enhanced view of corporate data. Clementine has a client/server architecture. The front end client is written using Java Swing, while the back end server is written in portable C++, allowing it to run on many different platforms.While at SPSS, I added many security and privacy features to the product, including the SSL encrypted communications between client and server. This was implemented using JCE on the Java client, and OpenSSL on the C++ server.

Software consultation involving all aspects of software engineering, including project management, software architecture and design, user interface design, development and testing, review and mentoring.

I acted as software architect, designer and technical lead for an internal project at Point Solutions, developing acuoDossier, an eCTD product for regulatory submissions in the pharmaceutical industry. There is a large amount of object oriented design, and graphical user interface work using Java Swing. I meet with the client for feedback and direction during the regular project planning and estimation meeting. I have introduced Agile development techniques in order to minimise risk and improve scheduling.
