The work experience resembled that of a small PhD, working on a project and producing a scientific report. The title of the project was ‘Investigating the Variability of Polarization for the Standard Stars used in Calibration for RINGO3 Data’. ‣ The basis of the project was to confirm or deny the lack of variability in the photometry and polarization of several standard stars used by the ARI in polarization calibration. Had these not been confirmed as standard, then new stars would be required for calibration and various pieces of work would be deemed un-reliable.‣ I produced a code that processes over several thousand images for several different target sources, manipulates the output data and analyses the polarization degree and angles from the past 5 years and quantifies the variability in order confirm or deny their status’ as standard.‣ Combined computer science/data handling, understanding of astrophysical phenomena and knowledge of astrophysics detectors and instruments.
