I gained exposure to numerous practice groups during my summer with FBT. I reviewed several contracts for clients responding to the EU's GDPR requirements, assisted in corporate entity formation, researched numerous state tax issues, and wrote healthcare legal blogs, among other projects. It was a wonderful experience and I am thrilled to be joining the firm as an Associate after graduation in 2019.

I worked in the government contracts department for both U.S. and foreign military sales. I primarily focused on contract review for engine and spare parts transactions as well as researching compliance issues under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). I also assisted in the due-diligence process for the acquisition of foreign manufacturing companies and developed training materials for non-legal personnel to ensure compliance with FAR requirements.

I helped develop the bank's C&I lending group as part of the credit department. Under the direction of the Chief Credit Officer, I assisted in implementing underwriting processes and policies that facilitated the expansion of the commercial portfolio. Additionally, I instituted the bank's SBA lending program so that the bank could begin offering government guaranteed loans.

After MainSource acquired Merchants Bank, I assumed an approximately $50MM commercial loan portfolio and was responsible for retaining customers through the merger while generating new loan growth and deposit relationships. I also assisted the retail managers in developing relationships with their commercial customers and leveraging cross-selling opportunities.

After being hired as a teller, I quickly transitioned to the commercial credit department with no prior finance or lending experience. I learned to underwrite both traditional C&I loans as well as investment real estate credit requests. I worked with loan officers to ensure that credit requests were processed quickly while ensuring that they were able to offer products that best served their customers' needs. I also assumed responsibility for the banks' SBA lending portfolio to improve its compliance with government regulations and recover guarantees for liquidated loans.

My service in the Marine Corps took me all over the world, with two years in Okinawa, deployments to Thailand and mainland Japan, and two deployments to Iraq. I enlisted as an artilleryman and was deployed as a member of the Fire Support Coordination Center supporting combat operations in Fallujah, Iraq. I also served as the Intelligence Chief for a convoy security team conducting operations in Ramadi, Iraq.
