About Joe Watson Simpson

I am currently employed as a Research Assistant at the Stockholm Environment Institute in the University of York. I support the Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Group in the preparation, analysis and internal and external dissemination of data and associated research. I also provide support in the form of background literature reviews, data collection and processing, and results preparation for the Trase project (an online platform and associated research portfolio increasing the transparency of deforestation-linked supply chains and the CASCADES project (exploring European climate risk exposure via trade).I hold a 1st class MSc in Sustainability and Behaviour Change (2021) at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Wales, United Kingdom. The course explored a broad range of environmental topics including energy, food production, politics, economics, governance, and transport. My final project investigated the role of UK trade union organisations in a sustainable transition to a low carbon economy.To fund my studies I worked as a free lance tutor offering services in GCSE and A-level maths and science.I hold a 1st class MChem in Chemistry (2018) from the University of York, where I specialised in atmospheric modelling and sustainable chemistry. After graduating I pursued a variety of travel and learning experiences. I am fluent in Spanish and have intermediate proficiency in German, French and Mandarin Chinese. I am passionate about political economy and environmental issues.
