At Duval Asphalt my job duties are wide ranging. I perform typical accounting functions, such as processing subcontractor invoices for payment and other various accounts payables for processing. I also prepare annually 1099’s, 1095-C’s, and property tax returns for submission to the appropriate reporting authorities. I also oversee the day-to-day IT relationship with our outside provider, manage and maintain the company’s cell phone program. Additionally, I manage the employee benefit plan activity, as well as work directly with our broker during open enrollment.

I was employed as the Accountant at a Jarex Industries, a small local firm that was acquired by Hanes Geo Companies six months after I started. I worked with Hanes before and after the acquisition until the responsibilities were absorbed by the corporate office. At Jarex Industries, I was the in-charge accountant, working with an outside CPA to maintain the records for delivery to the CPA for payroll and monthly services. At Hanes Geo Companies, I performed many of the same functions, with the additional responsibilities required by reporting for a public corporation.

I started my career as a Staff Accountant. In this role, I was responsible for Accounts Payable, as well as routine journal entries and fixed asset work. Additionally, I regularly produced reports and analysis of various financial aspects of the company as needed. I also had minor IT responsibilities and helped with implementing a couple of new IT systems during this time. After almost four years, I was promoted to Accounting Department Manager when the job became available. I managed three employees during this time, as well as producing financial statements for management.
