About Jose Luis Gomez Tornero

I am focused on computational electromagnetics and the efficient analysis/design of microwave components. Particularly, I am an specialist in leaky-wave devices, a type of radiating structures which make use of the so-called leaky modes. My current research interests include: 1- The development of numerical methods for the analysis and design of leaky-wave devices in planar and waveguide technologies, 2- The application of these leaky-wav devices for telecoms, RFID, microwave heating/sensing, wireless power transmission/harvesting, hyperthermia therapy to treat cancer, and analog signal processing. 3- Design of passive and active microwave/RF circuits in printed circuit technology: combiners, splitters, couplers, filters, antennas, amplifiers, oscillators, mixers, detectors. 4- The innovation in the area of higher-education teaching/learning.I have authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal papers, and more than 150 conference papers. I have been visiting researcher/professor at University of Loughborough (UK, England), Heriot-Watt University (UK, Scotland), Queen’s University of Belfast (UK, Northern Ireland), and CSIRO-ICT Centre (Sydney, Australia).Awards:2004- EPSON-Ibérica foundation award to the best Ph.D TIC project2006- Vodafone foundation-COIT/AEIT award to the best Spanish Ph.D. thesis in the area of Advanced Mobile Communications Technologies. -Best thesis in the area of Electrical Engineering by the UPCT. 2010- Appointed CSIRO Distinguished Visiting Scientist by the CSIRO ICT Centre, Sydney. 2010 IEEE Engineering Education conference award2011 EuCAP best student paper prize2012 EuCAP best antenna theory paper prize,-Spanish URSI second prize to the best student paper.2013. APS 2013and Spanish URSI 2013 Best Student paper finalist:-Spanish URSI 2013 Best Student paper.2014. EuCAP 2014 Best paper award finalist.-HISPASAT foundation-COIT/AEIT award to the best Spanish Ph.D. thesis by Maria Garcia Vigueras I supervised.

I have been in charge of the set-up of different compulsory syllabus such as: System&Circuits, Electromagnetic Waves, Microwave Engineering, Antenna Engineering.I am Erasmus coordinator, focused on International Relations with English-speaking host universities. I have attracted and supervised the Erasmus agreement with universities such as: Loughborough Univ (UK, England), Queens Univ. of Belfast (UK; Northern Ireland), Heriot-Watt Univ. (UK, Scotland), and Univ. of Birmingham (UK, England), CSIRO-ICT Centre (Australia), Univ. of Texas (USA). Also, I have been in charge of formation and recruitment-supervision of MSc students in space organizations/industries such as Alcatel Space, Thales Alenia, Astrium, Europea Space Agency, or Jet Propulsion Lab.I have a deep commitment to generation and dissemination of knowledge/skills in the field of high-frequency electronics. I deeply believe that these skills are yet to be acquaried by the general people (not only professionals and academics, but also amateurs), and that this is necessary to advance for a better, free, more evolved world. Due to the "nonmaterial" nature of electromagnetic forces, this field of technology has "just" arrived to our civilization, but it is advancing extremely fast, and with many potentianl applications as we are all living nowadays (WiFi or cellular phones, for instance). In this sense, I have created a couple of activities for dissemination / innovation of learning in the field of microwaves/antennas:1- Development of a SRT(Small Radio Telescope) at 1.42GHz.2- Development of DIY (Do-It-Yourself) microwave circuits for WiFi (2.45GHz)
