Clinical PsychologistStockport Team For Adult Rehabilitation Mar 2014 - Sep 2015Stockport Team For Adult Rehabilitation, Stockport Nhs Trust, UkI worked within a multidisciplinary community neurological rehabilitation team, with adult clients with a range of conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, MS and other degenerative conditions, brain tumours and ‘functional’ (or ‘medically unexplained’) neurological symptoms. As the clinical psychologist in a team of health staff, my work involved direct clinical work around depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, adjustment and loss, as well as liaising with mental health services around long term mental health issues. My therapeutic work is informed by cognitive behavioural approaches (including ACT, compassion-focussed work and mindfulness), systemic understandings and coaching/solution focussed approaches. I also conducted cognitive assessment work to clarify the impact of neurological issues on cognition and liaise about this with both clients and other services. I worked to develop other team members’ understanding of the psychological aspects of neurological conditions through co-working, consultation and regular training sessions.

Therapeutic work included cognitive behavioural and systemic approaches, running Webster Stratton parenting groups and working as part of the family therapy team. The role involved working with and consulting to staff from other disciplines and organisations, including schools, social services and 3rd sector agencies. It involved individual therapeutic work, group work with parents, working within the family therapy team, supervising trainee clinical psychologists and qualified staff, and delivering training to other professionals. In addition, I took a lead role for audit within the team, and inputted to service development projects.
