Currently I am a researcher at WUR Plant Breeding, Mushroom Research Group. Our research group works on projects aimed at cultivation and breeding of mushrooms and on crop protection. Next to this we are looking at additional ways to put lignocellulose degrading basidiomycetes to good use.

I have worked as a researcher at the department “Genetics, breeding and bioactive components” of WUR-PPO-Paddenstoelen. I worked in projects aimed at cultivation and breeding of mushrooms (mainly Agaricus bisporus and Pleurotus ostreatus). The highlight was the development of a sporeless strain of Oyster mushroom. This resulted in a commercially available strain that is protected by breeder's right in Europe and Plant Patent in the US.

At the Mushroom Experimental Station (in Dutch; Proefstation voor Champignoncultuur), I participated in a project concerning the development of a genomic map for white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). Next to this I worked in projects aimed at cultivation and breeding of mushrooms (mainly Agaricus bisporus and Pleurotus ostreatus).

At Radboud University in Nijmegen I held a PhD position on the topic of "Nitrogen metabolism in the commercial mushroom Agaricus bisporus". This was a study into the biochemistry and physiology of nitrogen assimilation in the white button mushroom.
