Fully vectorial (FEM, FDTD) and scalar methods such as beam propagation and Fourier methods.- Assembly/alignment of photonic components and systems.- System verification including both optical and electro-optical measurements.- Optics and MEMS surface characterization using Atomic Force Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope, and Zygo Interferrometer in cleanroom environment.- Diffractive optics design, fabrication and evaluation including electron beam lithography in clean room.- Development of a opto-electronics theoretical model for an external cavity laser including semiconductor laser gain element and a dispersive diffractive lens. The laser was tested and evaluated experimentally in the lab.- Optical laboratory management including build up and organizing the facility.- Project management.- Marketing.- Laser safety assessments.- Lifetime and sustainability studies of components and subsystems.- Worked with lasers and diodes in most power and spectral ranges.- Experience with a large variety of optics both free space and guided, such as waveguides and fibers.

- Electron Beam Lithography group member at the Micro Device Laboratory (MDL). Imaging spectrometer grating design, fabrication, and evaluation. - NASA funded research on optimized grating diffraction efficiency. A new grating design algorithm was developed that optimized the grating profile to generate a desired spectral efficiency. The algorithm was used to design gratings for flight imaging spectrometers. - Build up of a grating characterization laboratory test bench including laboratory hardware and software characterization tools.- Vectorial and scalar electromagnetic simulation (FEM, FDTD).- Grating fabrication and verification in the clean room and optics laboratories.- Optics surface characterization including Atomic Force Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope, and Zygo Interferrometer.
