I was a Contracts Manager with CJ Pryor, running several projects at a time. The projects ranged from motorway reconstruction, stripping topsoil in quarries and rehabilitating mined areas, creating bird sanctary. I also worked on new motorway construction (Bury St Edmonds).In my time with CJ Pryor I worked on several challenging projects where archaeology played a part in the success/failure of the project. Genome Campus in Hinxton Hall (significant artefacts were discovered on site and had to be dealt with by the archaeologists on site, on another site incendiary bombs from WWII were uncovered when stripping topsoil and had to be blown up on site by a bomb disposal team.One project in particular stands out and that was the overburden strip at Needigworth Quarry which involved the stripping of 500,000 cubic meters of overburden in 13 weeks. The overburden was then used to create a bird sanctuary. This process took place every year wherein the overburden was removed to expose gravels for mining and processing through the aggregate quarry for Hanson.

After emigrating from the UK in 1985 I joined LTA as a foreman working on a road/rail project in Kempton Park.From 1985 until I left Grinaker/LTA in 2003 I worked my way up within the company, working on projects in, Botswana, Transkei, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa.Projects included:1. LTA/CCC JV, Botswana (Mogoditshane), project consisted of the development of 500km's of water/sewer infrastructure.2. LTA/CCC Joint Venture, Botswana (Mochudi), project consisted of the development of 150km's of water/sewer infrastructure for a small but developing town.3. LTA Earthworks N1 Toll Road, Polokwane, South Africa, project consisted of the construction of 120km's of asphalt freeway, from Naaboomspruit to Pietersburg.4. LTA/CCC Joint Venture, Lesotho, Southern Africa, project consisted of the construction of a single lane carriageway road through the mountains of Lesotho (3,250m above sea level).5. LTA, Landau Colliery, Witbank, Mpumalanga, South Africa, project consisted of the construction of coal mine infrastructure.6. LTA, N3 Toll road Ladysmith, Natal, South Africa, project consisted of the construction of concrete freeway.7. LTA, Special Road S21, East London, Cape Province, South Africa, project consisted of the construction of 7 kilometers of dual carriageway, including 2 bridges.8. LTA/Marples JV, Manzini – Mbabane Road, Swaziland, project consisted of the construction of 10 kilometers of dual carriageway road, including telecommunication installation.9. LTA, Port Edward – Bizana, Transkei, Southern Africa, project consisted of the reconstruction of 80 kilometers of existing road, including installation of new road drainage.10. LTA, Bramboss Air force Base, Louis Trichardt, South Africa, project consisted of the construction of new Air force base infrastructure.11.
