Johan has more than 26 years’ experience in a wide field of mainly litigation and commercial work. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to the following:1. LABOUR LAWJohan has experience in this field of the law on all levels: in the workplace dealing with disciplinary hearings both as chair person and representative, representing individual employers and employees as well as trade unions, before the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and several bargaining councils and handling cases in the Labour Court and Labour appeal Court. Although by no means an expert he has an interest in restraint of trade matters.2. FAMILY LAW Johan has experience across the whole spectrum of family law, including divorce, the Children’s Act and commercial questions arising from family law matters.He also has an interest in matters where the parties are involved in a relationship of cohabitation.3. COMMERCIAL LAW Johan spent a substantial part of his career doing litigation for some of the commercial banks and gained extensive experience in banking law, including the National Credit Act. Naturally, acting on behalf of financial institutions also brought him in contact with the law relating to insolvency and companies.Furthermore, he litigated in matters covering the wide field of the law of contract.4. ADMINISTRATIVE LAW Johan has acted for several clients against government, both on national and local level, and gained experience in, amongst others, the Promotion of Access to Justice Act, the Promotion of Access to Information Act, the Municipal Systems Act, the Municipal Finance Management Act and their regulations.5. THE LAW OF DELICTFor a number of years Johan was responsible for the personal injury matters in the firm where he was employed and gained a working knowledge of the general principles of this field of the law.He also had his fair share of libel and iniuria matters.
