My role as Desk Officer at the Secretariat was to provide a first analysis on any event taking place internationally or domestically that could lead to a crisis that might affect Swedish political decision making at the highest level. Main tasks consisted of monitoring and reporting about events and news that potentially may emerge as a crisis for the Swedish government. The reporting was in oral as well as written presentations. In case of a crisis, the tasks consisted of supporting and coordinating the work for concerned and relevant ministries.

Collect and analyze information and data on China’s relations with Africa. The work was carried out within the scope of the research project “China in Africa: ‘New’ South-South Cooperation and the issue of state sovereignty”. Apart from this work, I have also written articles for a popular audience, comparing the Chinese and Brazilian engagement on the African continent.

Assisted on various ongoing research projects which involved China and to a large extent their cooperation with the EU. More specifically the areas of focus were China-EU science and technology cooperation, China-EU environmental cooperation and Chinese investments in Europe. The duties consisted mainly of data collection and assisting on seminars.

Main duties was to follow and report on conflicts in the Southeast Asian region, where I put particular focus on the dispute in the South China Sea and the conflict in Southern Thailand. Besides reporting on conflicts in the South East Asian region I also participated in the general daily work being carried out at the Embassy. These duties included supporting various events, writing reports and to some limited extent working with administrative assignments.
