SCAW Metals is a South African metal manufacturer in the steel industry and due to the high concentration of emissions produced by their processes, a system was required that will drastically reduce the concentration of their emissions and the damage their processes cause to the environment. Howden is the principle contractor for this turn-key project, responsible for the entire project from start to finish, including design, civil works, electrical installations, mechanical engineering and commissioningDUTIES INCLUDE:Auditing HSE management systems of sub-contractors against legal and client specification requirements,Send out finding reports on a monthly basis, ensuring close-outs on deviations, from sub-contractor safety officers,Issue monthly project safety report to client including changes in activities, sub-contractors on site and project safety stats,Compile baseline, continuous and issue based risk assessments,Sample SWP's, SOP's and Method statements relating to work activities,Prepare rigging studies together with the rigging study team, also preparing the risk assessment for the lift and method statement for the lift,VFL walk-abouts, Daily inspections and document assessments, Chair monthly health and safety site meetings,Communicate with Department of Labour ensuring continuous compliance with local municipal, provincial and OHS Act requirements,Monitor training needs according to scope of work and facilitate training and development accordingly,Draw up the project fatal risk register, emergency procedures and rescue plans,Emergency coordinator,Co-ordinate interfacing and access control among sub-contractors and project activities in production areas,Control an open line of communication with Client ensuring sound relations,Participate in project management meetings, ensuring proactive planning according to the project timeline

Due to the demand for their business, Nampak glass decided to expand their process by adding another furnace to their operations. After a fatality was suffered on site due to a fall, the contractor and client required assistance on the investigation and future accident prevention and I, therefore, spent a short period on this project as a safety consultant and represented JMAR ELECTRICAL as a contractor on the project.

Due to demand, Glencore decided to expand their process by adding another two furnaces to their operations. I joined this project at a late stage near 65% of completion. This was a very large project as indicated by the LTI free man hours averaging three to five thousand people on site daily across all fields of construction. With the rich amount of experience and expertise involved on this project it offered me an excellent learning experience, moreover exposing me to CO gas operations and the means that are required to effectively monitor and control the exposure of employees to this deadly gas.Howden was responsible for the installation and design of the gas scrubber plant which basically extracts all the CO gas out of the process and filtrate it. This was a very high risk area as we had to manage work in an area that was already in operation.

Focused on identifying hazards & risks, unsafe acts & unsafe conditions in the workplace of a mechanical engineering fabrication company. Incident investigation & reports, Induction training, Audit preparation, audit contractor files, etc.

I was a contracted professional rugby player at the Pumas Rugby Union. I represented them in the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup Competitions during this time

I was a contracted professional rugby player at the Golden Lions representing them in the Currie Cup and Super Rugby competition during this time.

I was a contracted professional rugby player with the Blue Bulls company, representing the u/21, Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup teams during this time. In this time the company won the Super Rugby competition in 2007 & 2009 & Vodacom Cup in 2008 & 2009, whereby I was a member of the training squads.
