As Group Manager Corporate Finance I am currently part of the Corporate Finance team supporting mergers and acquisitions initiatives within the Exxaro Resources group of companies

As Business Unit Manager of the Exxaro Resources Zinc business in South Africa I was responsible for implementing the Zinc strategy of Exxaro Resources. I reported to the Executive General Manager of Exxaro Resources who reports to the CEO of the company. Key focus areas are on business management and financial control (R2bm/a), change management, people (staff compliment of 851 excluding contractors) and culture development, safety performance and operational excellence and closure of the business in 2011. As Exxaro Resources decided to divest or close its Zinc business, my personal role focused on the due diligence processes, change management, divestment journey and closure of the business. People management via a One Team One Goal principle and living the values a strong management philosophy.Due to the economic climate in 2011 closure of Zincor was announced in July 2011 by the Board. My responsibility involved the implementation of the the ramp down and closure of the business by the end of 2011. Change readiness for all employees during this time was a key focus area. Zincor was closed successfully at the end of 2011 with achieving record production in the last month of operation and with zero harm.

As Manager Technology and Business Improvement for Exxaro Resources Ltd from the focus was on technology development and business improvement of the global Exxaro Sands Operations aligned with strategic goals to ensure competitiveness in the heavy minerals mining industry. The operations include KZN Sands in Richardsbay, Namakwa Sands in Saldanha and Tiwest operations in Western Australia.

As Manager Research and Development for the Kumba Resources Ltd group the role was focused on the development of skills, technology scouting and bench scale testwork for commodities in Iron ore, Zinc, heavy minerals and coal.

In the heavy minerals industry a significant leadership role was mainly focussed on research and development, plant design, construction and development of skills to commission a green field project (R3.5bm) from mining , beneficiation and smelting operations. The position as Manager Operations was focussed on safety, commissioning of 2 50 MW DC Furnaces, ramp-up and increased production, maintenance of plant, cost control and people development.

Inspired by a technical metallurgical foundation in the steel manufacturing industry and developing skills and change management into new business developments of stainless steel manufacturing at Iscor responsibilities varied from technical to managerial and team dynamics to achieve technical success.A strong fundamental engineering approach and appreciation to implement projects on the shopfloor with operational staff was lessons learned early in my career. Working with people in a team was then already a passion.
