Papua New Guinea

March 2001-June 2002 Papua New Guinea: PNG Eco-Forestry ProgrammeCoordinator and Eco-Forestry and Sustainable Forest Management expert at the EU financed Eco-forestry Programme. I was responsible for more than 150 co-operators (book keeping staff, 3 expatriates, foresters, economists, teachers, trainers and other field staff). We were involved in forest policy, eco-forestry, sustainable forest management and commercialisation of FSC timber. During this second phase, within the first year and still working with the interim budget, we reorganised and supported the production of FSC labelled timber and succeeded to produce more timber than ever before.

Indonesia

Social forester and project leader in the”Forest Fire Prevention and Control Project”, South Sumatra, project financed by the European Union. I managed the project composed of 3 expatriate experts and up to 25 local staffs.• Overall direction, planning, administration, logistics, preparation of job descriptions for staff and consultants, recruitment of staff , review of contract, budget drafting and implementation of the fire prevention and control project.• Present the project at national and international conferences.• Development of a strong public relations presence within the project, networking with national and international organisations, donors, government of Indonesia, NGO’s and state and private forest enterprises (Inhutani, Barito Pacific, Forest concessionaires HPH, reforestation companies HTI) • Make a clear analysis of the causes and consequences of fires in the province (RRA)(fire socio-eco-economical approach)• Strengthening of the forest extension organisations by developing a public education and extension program, promotion and information materials (leaflets, posters, training manuals) for fire prevention and control.
