About Johan Spetz, Phd
With a background in Radiation Physics, my PhD-project (conducted in the Forssell-Aronsson Lab at University of Gothenburg) focused on peptide receptor radionuclide therapy of small intestine neuroendocrine tumors and biological effects of radiation. This research prompted a further interest in biology, and lead me to enter a postdoctoral research position in the Sarosiek Lab at Harvard School of Public Health, with a focus on the regulation of cell death in response to stress such as irradiation. Since completing my postdoc, I have returned to the University of Gothenburg to start my own research group. The aims of my research are to leverage knowledge on cell death signaling into more efficient radiotherapy and radionuclide therapies for cancer, as well as minimizing toxic effects of ionizing radiation and other cancer therapies on healthy tissues.

Sarosiek Laboratory Research Interests: We seek to understand how the regulation of apoptosis (programmed cell death) in healthy as well as diseased cells affects their sensitivity to damage or stress, including genotoxic damage induced by radiation or chemotherapy.
