Spearheaded the full spectrum of mining operations including Production, Security, Community, Shipping and Procurement. Carried accountability for production, safety and financial performance. Reported to the COO and MD. Led a team of 1,200 workers. ►►►►OVERVIEW• South Deep Mine is affiliated with Goldfields. • South Deep Mine - 5 Vertical Shafts and a very complex infrastructure network (Fridge plants, Backfill plants, etc.).• Mechanized underground operations, mined 2.2 M tons per annum.►►►►RESPONSIBILITIES• Introduction and implementation of De-stress mining, long hole stoping and bench and drifting.• Implement a support methodology to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, safe mining operations.• Manage the engineering fleet in hard rock massive deep level orebody.• Part of the team that managed turnaround of operations to implement a culture with regards to performance and care for safety and the implementation of various systems and structures that was absent in the organization.• Part of the team responsible for the implementation of a High-Performance culture. Specifics of introducing a culture for mechanized mining.

South Deep

Mogalakwena Large Open Pit

►►►►COMPANY OVERVIEW• Largest platinum open pit operation in South Africa.• Planned to mine 115 Million tons per year.►►►►RESPONSIBILITIES• Responsible for the drilling and bench preparation crews, which include the construction of haul roads.• Manage contractors engaged to perform the mining and maintenance functions of the operating fleet.• Responsible for the implementation of systems to facilitate compliance to the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act, 29 of 1996.• Deliver the requirements of the mine business plan and required operational volume.• Lead the mining planning process to meet the business plan objectives.

Lydenburg

►►►►OVERVIEW• Impala/ Arm Joint Venture• Board and pillar mine producing 200Kt per month on the UG2 with development of the Merensky.• Fully Mechanised Mine.►►►►RESPONSIBILITIES• Responsible for the Merensky Shaft and Main Shaft Operations delivering 80% of the ROM to the plant.• Responsible for mine health and safety at operations.• Lead the operations as regards long term planning to operational execution.

Tanzania

►►►►OVERVIEW• Project was the biggest underground Mine in Tanzania.• The project consisted of providing advice to Barrick on mining methods aimed to reduce dilution and maintenance cost on the underground and surface fleet. • Project was worth 19 Mil UDS per year and involved the complete process of mining (from the blasting to milling phase).• Responsible for the Consumable Continuous Improvement Project – resulted in a saving to client of approximately $350 k in one year. • Successfully implemented fit for purpose operation strategy (before strategy - $ 950 per ounce and after implementation $740 per ounce)• Working with Xstrata on the Kabanga Project. • Included mining planning and budgeting and execution.
