My responsibilities as Server Engineer was to support and monitor all Server hardware andMicrosoft software running on the servers. Server hardware comprised of HP and Fujitsu-Siemenstechnologies. I was responsible for the Legato Networker backups of the servers and administrationof the Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, SMS, and Mcafee environments.My Network Administrator duties were to support and monitor all Cisco network infrastructure, as well as the remote sites. Monitoring the WAN links and troubleshoot any problems. I was also responsible for Operation Reports on these environments and liaise with 3rd party Service Providers.

I was contracted as part of a Windows 2000 migration team, where I was appointed Team-Leader.My responsibilities were to migrate the user’s workstations from a Novell based platform toMicrosoft. Part of doing this meant we had to plan and troubleshoot errors that we may encounterduring the migration. We were involved in the repackaging of Telkom software to be compliant toWindows 2000. We had to migrate e-mail systems from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Outlook,and also Novell Printer Queues had to be changed to IP Printing.Back-End responsibilities were also to migrate user accounts from Novell to Microsoft, including the users e-mail accounts, which were transferred to Microsoft Exchange Server. We had to move data between personal drives, and remote File Servers. We also had to troubleshoot network problems. We were supporting the users until the project ended. We were a team of 8 contractors assigned to the Eastern Cape and part of the Western Cape, consisting of about 3500 machines and 4000 users. This was the biggest computer systems migration of its kind in South Africa. I’m also proud to say that we were the only region to reach all our targets before the scheduled time, and also had the least problems, and best client feedback.I was appointed over a project of migrating a small group of users toWindows XP, and testing software and hardware compatibility on it. As extra duties on top of themigration, was to test Citrix clients on the Microsoft network, as part of a Citrix Pilot Program.During my CCNA studies I was allowed to assist in various network tasks to better my knowledge ofCisco Routers and Switches.
