It struck me that people living in those countries had the best lives if they had income in a hard currency and assets offshore. It meant they could engage with the local economy objectively, with passion and energy, knowing that if conditions do become impossible to navigate, they could leave when they chose to. It allowed them to enjoy the best of the lifestyle, positively impacting the community, while minimizing worry. Many of them never intended to leave. But they could relax about being there despite sometimes significant political and economic turmoil. ▶️ 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐌𝐄During childhood I aspired to a better life than my parents, seeking professional success, travel, and financial freedom. My journey led me to PwC, where I gained expertise in financial markets, reaching the role of Associate Director. Later, I joined Lloyds Banking Group in London, advising clients on financial risk management for nearly a decade, even during the 2008 financial crisis. I was a frequent conference speaker, published technical articles and contributed positively to European financial industry regulation.I also trade financial markets with my own money. It keeps me in touch with the heartbeat of asset prices while keeping my deep financial markets experience current.I have five children (and a very capable wife!) who give me a lot of joy as I accompany them on their own journey of discovery. I have coached two of them to the national school’s chess championship, representing the Western Cape (one is the Western Cape champion in his age group).
