Taught 8th grade ELA and 7th grade Reading Enrichment. I specifically targeted the children with exceptionalities in order to enhance or open up their access to learning according to their needs.

I've joined the DREAM team! Teaching 4 sections of AP Literature in an ICT class, focusing as a Learning Specialist.

Teaching ELA to 9th grade cohorts (along with managing an advisory and their social emotional needs). "Hamlet" is on the ELA menu...I shall fear-eth not (she bluffed).UPDATE: Due to under-enrollment in 9th grade, our time here was short. But I loved it while it lasted.

I've been able to teach a range of ages thus far: adults (both young and older) and then children. Now it's time for High School. • Teach four 10th grade writing composition courses, along with one 11th grade ELA class.• Independently create lesson plans/curriculum based on needs of scholars and Regents expectations.• Provide the needed engaging class materials/texts along with writing prompts.• Administer high-level individualized feedback in order to meet each scholar's needs as well as maximize each scholar's growth.

At this organization, I work diligently in the following capacities:• ELA LeadI teach classes of spirited scholars where--using my passion, humor, and structure--I strive to develop their deep love of reading and writing; I also hone their skills in critical thinking and analysis.• Reading Intervention Teacher I coach a small group of students in need of emergency assistance in reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension.• History Co-TeacherI support the History Lead with behavior management as well as with transferable teaching moments during history class (both of us intellectually prepare for each other's lessons).• Advisor Along with caring for the intellectual needs of my content class, I am also charged with a group of students whose emotional needs I address, along with advising them on study and work habits.

As an adjunct instructor at this school, I was able to teach students at the collegiate level in a variety of courses, including,• Written CommunicationsIn this course, my students are prepared with the principles of collegiate grammar and writing approaches. I stress quality, attention to detail, and organization. The topics that I use promote real-world relevance, and I introduce them to all forms of writing, from academic to professional. • Public SpeakingI create a fun and safe environment for my students in order to get them acclimated to speaking in front of a crowd. After getting them comfortable, I push for excellence in presentations and speeches. I also encourage them to apply critical thinking through engaging class discussions and, when the occasion calls for it, debates. • Professional DevelopmentI coach my class through the "student to young professional" process. This includes resume writing, cover letters, and interviews. But beyond that, we discuss and demonstrate (through role play) what is expected from a valued employee. • Drama and the Short StoryOne of my favorite courses to teach at this school. My students are introduced to classic and contemporary stories. I encourage analysis and critical thinking as we consider the art of the written word. I use creative assignments to promote emotional involvement, like letting them choose characters from our considered material, and having them create their own fictional world around the characters. • Business Communications Another favorite course of mine to teach. In this course, I set up our class as a fictional company. We then go through a series of trials and tests where various writing approaches (neutral, positive, bad news, persuasive, etc) are needed. I have a lot of fun with it; I know they do too. My goal is not to stuff information in their brain in order for them to pass a test; my goal is for them to take and apply valuable principles and skills in their lives.

At Apex, I taught youth at an after-school program, grades 7-9, guiding them with the principles of effective public presentation.I used games and creative prompts as engaging frames for each lesson, allowing the students to feel less apprehensive about public speaking, and also allowing them to have more fun. When they're having fun with a game or a prompt, some of them don't even remember that they are speaking in front of a large group. These lessons have allowed many of my afterschool students to open up and blossom; this fact was reported to me by one of their primary teachers with whom I share students.

For Cengage Learning I was asked to rewrite a variety of content for a grammar and writing textbook. The content for revision included chapter guidelines and directions, as well as sections explaining essay development. While evaluating numerous chapters, I also selected exercises, storylines, and tests, writing updated material to replace them, using topics that were either more relevant or more interesting to the student demographic. The content writing in this project called for some creativity in layout and pedagogy, especially when tasked with increasing clarity on the essay process for the student audience. My attention to detail and simplicity of delivery was definitely utilized when rewriting the section on the update of the APA style. Textbook writing calls for painstaking attention to precision of word; nevertheless, this project was a lot of fun.

I coached a girls' varsity team through the season, winning the championship and making it all the way to the State Playoffs. During the season, I designed drills and practices according to their needs, and conducted a fitness regimen to improve their stamina on the court. Watching my team on the court, applying what they've learned in practice, was truly a satisfying experience.

I supervised and managed all advertising accounts for a local newspaper, building a network of contacts for weekly advertising, creating and maintaining loyal business relationships with each of these advertisers.At this paper, I was able to write editorials in special issues, promoting my clients. Along with writing promotional pieces, I designed and directed ad creation, wrote copy for ads, and collaborated with internal and external teams to meet weekly deadlines.I was also able to plan future proposals and consultations based on the specific needs of clients. Although I would go on to use my skills in the classroom, I consider my time as an AE invaluable, and I remember these years fondly.
