For 33 years, John held a successful career as a senior health care executive. In 1998 he founded Southwind Health Partners, a start-up health care business focused on providing management services for hospital and health system sponsored medical groups. Over 20 years, Southwind grew to one o the nation's pre-eminent health care consulting practices. Following acquisition of Southwind by The Advisory Board Company, John led the development of an expansive, full-service consulting and management division serving over 250 health system clients in 50 states with 400 consultants and staff. In late 2017, Advisory Board was acquired by United Health Care's Optum. In 2018, John co-founded the Deane Foundation with his wife of nearly 30 years, Natasha Grant Deane. John and Natasha met in St. Louis, Missouri in 1987 while both were employed at Washington University Medical Center. They were married in the spring of 1988, settled into jobs and graduate school at The University of Texas Medical Branch and started a family. The Deane's moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1992, where they reside to this day.In 2000, the Deane family acquired 10 acres of land overlooking the Cumberland River near Granville, Tennessee, and built a second home. For over 18 years, the Deane's have been integral members of the Granville community and have contributed to the growth of the tourism economy there, acquiring the former Granville Marina & Resort and renaming it Wildwood Resort & Marina. These experiences have greatly deepened their love and appreciation for the State of Tennessee and its people and inspired them to look for further opportunities to know and serve its communities better.Throughout his professional career, John has served in a number of leadership roles in his church and non-profit organizations in the community including the Family Foundation Fund, the Faith Family Medical Center, Music City Baroque and the Nashville Health Care Council.
