John A. Rees, PhD (UNSW) is Director of Research and Training at the Graduate Research School, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He was formerly the Milward L. Simpson Visiting Fulbright Professor at the University of Wyoming and Professor of International Relations at The University of Notre Dame Australia. John is an office holder for the International Political Science Association and formerly of the American Academy of Religion. He is a recognised scholar in the international relations discourse on culture and religion, with intersecting interests in nationalism studies and ideology studies. His research occurs across three broad investigations: religious and cultural identity (conception and expression) in national and international policy; universities as stakeholders in multicultural polities and multi-faith societies; and ideologies of the nation.John has senior experience on statutory bodies such as university research committees and academic boards, and has been an invited member on program and institution-level governance review panels. He has been recognised for excellence in university teaching by the Australian Government, has an extensive record in research supervision, has taught graduate classes in the United States, and delivered keynote public lectures in the United States, the Philippines, and Europe. John harnesses his record in leadership, research, and teaching to oversee the research and training agenda of the UTS Graduate Research School. As part of this work, John is Co-Director of the International Centre for Knowledge Resilience, and leads UTS' membership of the Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) international network. John is an active member of the Fulbright alumni community.
