About John Acree

John Acree, a Senior Manager at International Resources Group’s (IRG) Relief and Reconstruction Division since 1999, has more than 17 years experience in natural disaster humanitarian assistance, complex emergency relief, post-conflict disaster response, reconstruction and stabilization programming, and development management. Mr. Acree has represented IRG and USAID in several senior-level positions and is presently under contract with the Department of State’s Office of Inspector General. He recently served as USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) Team Leader to develop disaster risk reduction strategies for OFDA’s six international offices. He was the OFDA program manager for USAID’s internally displaced persons (IDP) assistance program in Iraq and brings a wealth of experience and expertise in managing humanitarian and transition programs for IDPs, disaster risk reduction, strategy and program design, adult education, food security, and military liaison. Mr. Acree has worked with numerous USG and international agencies throughout his career. During the 1999 refugee crisis in Albania, he served as the U.S. Senior Advisor to Albania’s Emergency Management Group overseeing the country’s stabilization, return, resettlement, and reconstruction efforts. During the initial liberation of Afghanistan in 2002, he served as the Senior Advisor to OFDA, the USAID Mission, and US Special Forces engineers to assess and improve humanitarian aid transport corridors into Afghanistan from Tajikistan. In 2002, he assisted USAID, the Defense Department, and the State Department with humanitarian planning for Iraq operations, worked with military civilian affairs teams and NGOs during the Iraq humanitarian response, and managed USAID’s food security efforts in Iraq until March 2006.Mr. Acree has conducted seminars on fragile and transition states at George Washington University and holds an MA in international public administration and development management.Specialties: Strategy Development, Humanitarian Assistance, Complex Emergency Relief, Disaster Risk Reduction, Internally Displaced Persons, International Program management
