Business lead for establishment of Van Elle Canada Inc. Responsible for building the Canadian business entity and in country team as part of the expansion strategy for Van Elle.

Responsible for the Safety, Quality, Engineering and Contract performance of the Rail Division within Van Elle. Network with clients to generate repeat and new business opportunities and engage with industry groups to support advancements in technology and working practises. Lead the Research and development aspect of the business to develop new systems and techniques. Ensure compliance with standards and codes of practise such as EC7 for design and Ground Investigation. Manage Rail plant operations and maintenance in accordance with Network Rail POS requirements and RIS1530 PLT. Responsible manager for Safe Work Planning in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/019 standard. Ensure that the requirements of NR/L3/CIV/0063 Piling, Drilling, Crane, MEWP and SPMT operations adjacent to the railway are implemented across the business. I also act as the company supervisor for the Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Van Elle, Nottingham Trent University and Innovate UK to develop the Van Elle Track Bed Stabilisation system. Represent Van Elle within industry associations such as the Rail Plant Association and M&EE Working Group and input into the development of new and existing standards.

Senior Rail Engineering Manager for the Rail Division of Van Elle. I ensure the Safety, Quality and delivery of all of the Rail Divisions operations, ensuring we achieve a right first time approach to project delivery. I oversee the delivery of Rail Engineering schemes employing a variety of systems such as driven piles installed with Movax side grip equipment and impact hammering, Drilled systems such as Elemex and SuperJaws, Trackbed Stabilisation (TBS), and SFA/CFA. I lead the Research & Development relating to new systems and processes that are vitally important to ensuring that we provide the best solutions to the most challenging projects.

Senior Agent working on Network Rail CP5 framework. responsible for the safe and effective delivery of bridge replacement and refurbishment schemes. nominated as CRE for several schemes through various stages of design, delivery and close out.

Specialist geotechnical contractor using Road Rail Vehicles to undertake Electrification schemes, embankment stabilisation, ballast retention, temporary works, Sheet piling and lineside civils. Responsible for the day to day management of the Rail Division, Safety and compliance management, ensuring compliance with Network Rail POS (Plant Operator Scheme) rules and Principal Contractor requirements. Undertake site audits to ensure compliance with procedures and requirements. Manage and undertake estimating, planning, commercial and contractual management, direct supervision of workforce, Client meetings and work winning. Undertake additional duties as POS Representative and on site management.

Responsible for the successful delivery of the eastern section of Acton Dive Under as part of the Crossrail project. I ensured that the project was delivered safely, on time and budget. I also undertook duties of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and ALO responsible manager for the project.

Construction of a strategic salt storage barn at Misterton in Leicestershire on behalf of the Highways Agency as part of the Asset Support Framework. Contact value of £6.5 million. Works involved the construction of a reinforced concrete retaining structure supporting a lightweight steel frame specialist roof structure designed to store 55,000 tonnes of salt. As the Agent I was responsible for the successful delivery of the project in adherence with the contract programme and ensuring safety and quality requirements were met. I had direct responsibility for financial control and risk management, control of supply chain, designers and sub-contractors as well as directly employed staff.

ECI phase for the M1 J19 to 16 managed motorways scheme working on behalf of the Highways Agency. Responsible for reviewing and optimising the design of the RCB works in collaboration with the design team. Production of both project and strategic risk registers for the scheme and supervising survey and investigation works on the network in order to gain information for the design team. I was also responsible for liaison with other stakeholders in the project such as the MAC, TechMAC and NRTS.

£8 million project to upgrade the existing main runway and Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) at RAF Scampton. Works involved resurfacing the existing runway with PMB SMA to DE 049 Specification. I worked closely with the DIO pavements team to develop a suitable PMB material based on a Nynas Z4 polymer modified binder. Repairs to the southern taxiway were also undertaken including Pavement quality concrete bay replacements, Maxi-Crete repairs and joint sealing. A new 5 bar approach was also installed. I was responsible for the running of the project working for the Agent including programming, supervising the site engineering team, co-ordination of the works with sub-contractors and cost monitoring.

Demolition of an existing Victorian footbridge over the Chiltern line in harrow and replacement with a new 30m span steel bridge during rail possessions. Project cost approx £1.5m. Duties included supervision of Site Engineers, checking of setting out of piles and structural steelwork, co-ordination of fabrication of new bridge and factory testing, control of sub contractors, planning and supervising lifting operations for demolition and re-construction.

£8m Bridge Replacement over the West Coast Mainline as part of Network Rail’s Trent Valley 4 Tracking. Works included the demolition of two existing bridges during rail possessions and replacing with a new 25m span bridge which included extensive piling for the new abutments. Extensive widening of the existing railway cutting was also required, which was soil nailed in order to maintain stability of the embankment once it had been cut to the new 60° profile. Duties included setting out of Contiguous Bored Pile Walls, Soil Nails, Drainage, Kerbs and carriageway sections. Responsible for direct supervision of workforce and ensuring quality control on all elements of the works.
