My success is principally based on the three core tenants of information security: Data Integrity; Data Confidentiality; Data Availability. Information security drives every technical decision I make as these three principles are scalable, easily reach across platforms, and can be applied to any form of data system. It is this holistic approach that I bring to IT management. My career in IT spans just shy of 30 years, the last 23 in the role of Director of Information Technology at Lone Star Legal Aid, a non-profit legal firm headquartered in Houston providing civil legal services the poor throughout the Eastern region of Texas. I was continually successful in leading any number of increasingly sophisticated projects to completion on time and on budget. During my tenure the firm grew from a staff of 75 over 7 offices running thinnet to nearly 400 people in 16 offices connected together over SD-WAN with a world class hybridized and hyperconverged infrastructure and off-prem data center.

Career Break2021 - 2024More than two decades of leading IT with passionate dedication at Lone Star Legal Aid came to an end late 2021. Neither the firm nor I wanted this to happen, it was heartbreaking. Yet, even though I immensely enjoyed the responsibilities and challenges of my role it soon became apparent to me that this was a rare and unusual opportunity to spend time with family, make some lifestyle changes, and pursue personal interests before re-entering the workforce.During this time, I helped my mother in a somewhat complicated move from Arizona to Texas and almost immediately thereafter assisted my son in his move to into the dorms at Colorado School of Mines. Soon after I began dedicating a good portion of each day to exercise and fitness. When not occupied with these endeavors or an occasional consultancy I engaged heavily in my lifelong personal passion for aviation, spending many hours in the air and in the hangar maintaining my airplane. The events in Ukraine reawakened my old obsession for geopolitics and history. I knew “why?”, but why "now?” It was a simple question without a simple answer and soon I plunged back into the geography, demography, economics, history, and politics that so interested me in the past. Of course, Ukraine did not occur in a vacuum and my research quickly expanded. For well over the next year, I read and digested everything I could to gain a sense of how all the pieces come together to make today what it is or, more importantly, what tomorrow might be. Of course, I do not know what the future will bring but perhaps it is enough to simply understand the present. What a fascinating place this world is.Our world is changing, the time to jump back in is now. I’ve done those things that needed doing just as I will continue to do them. I am truly fortunate to have been gifted this time to enjoy friends and family, to learn, and to rest. I feel just as fortunate to come back into the work force with renewed vigor and fresh perspective.
