I am part of a large team committed to protecting clean sport by conducting anti-doping testing of elite sports personnel at major sporting events and at sports grounds and training establishments across the United Kingdom. My role has required me to engage with senior staff of professional sports clubs to secure support and adherence to doping control procedures and thereafter secure athletes compliance with the process.Whilst the majority of my engagement is with professional football clubs, my responsibilities as a DCO requires my participation in carrying out anti-doping procedures across a broad range of different sports and with the support of athletes and other stakeholders who are doing their best to promote clean sport and fair competition.I have been fortunate enough to be present at some of the most high profile sporting events within the UK and to meet so many exceptional people, whilst carrying out my duties.

Since early 2017, I have continued to support improvements in policing by working with His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and the Fire and Rescue Service (HMICFRS).I have both led and supported inspection activity across a broad range of policing themes, on behalf of HMICFRS. This work has often involved close collaboration with colleagues in other criminal justice inspectorate agencies.Most recently, I have worked in assessing super complaint submissions and reviewing significant criminal investigations in different police forces across England and Wales.

I was engaged as a consultant with the Modern Slavery Police Transformation Unit, working with Devon and Cornwall Police. During my tenure, I worked with thirty-six different police services across England and Wales, assessing their approach to human trafficking. As part of this work I carried out in-depth reviews of modern slavery and human trafficking investigations in each force. My role required me to interview lead investigators on both historic and live modern slavery and human trafficking investigations. The purpose was to audit, collate and understand the challenges they have faced in tackling this highly complex area of criminality. A key tenet of my role was to advise investigating officers on potential options to take forward in developing investigations. At the conclusion of each visit to the different police forces, I provided oral and written feedback to tactical and strategic modern slavery leads in each force. The role enabled me to carry out an in-depth review of well over 300 police led modern slavery investigations nationally.

North England

I was a Service Liaison Lead with responsibility for planning and leading inspections into the efficiency, effectiveness and legitimacy of policing in a number of different police services across the north of England. From 2013, I planned and led teams of specialist staff on numerous inspections into most UK police forces. These audits focussed on a broad range of policing performance themes, including value for money, leadership, safeguarding, overall effectiveness and operational capability. A key part of my duties had been to devise and plan audit activity in order to assess and report to what extent police forces were efficient, effective and were delivering a high quality service to the public. l also reviewed each forces' capacity to carry out robust and timely investigations into serious crime. Several of the inspections I led had a strong focus on protecting vulnerable people and in understanding to what extent forces had robust arrangements in place to identify vulnerability and respond accordingly. I have also conducted several inspections assessing management and culture of police organisations and considered how senior leaders set the standards and culture of the organisations they lead. The role required that I maintain positive and professional relationships with chief constables, senior leadership teams and police and crime commissioners. As part of my core role, I regularly interviewed senior leaders in support of audit and inspection methodology. An important requirement of my work was that I was able to deliver constructive feedback to inform improvements.My last significant contribution was to support a nationwide inspection into the police response to tackling modern slavery and human trafficking.I have written several public facing reports on the findings of inspections, which now appear on the HMICFRS website.

I was a senior manager in strategic development department responsible for effective and accurate crime recording arrangements and managing internal quality service monitoring scrutiny for the force. A significant part of my role was to carry out audit and inspection activities to identify business improvements and to ensure that the force was well placed to deliver a high-quality service to the public in times of austerity. A central part of my duties was to provide senior management oversight of the day to day operational policing response by the service to local communities.

Merseyside

Leading a number of different teams comprising of over 300 officers and police staff, I was responsible for managing much of the force response to protecting vulnerable people. This included management of the force rape investigation team, the abusive images unit and the public protection unit. I provided oversight to ensure the efficacy of force multi-agency public protection arrangements and the governance arrangements to monitor registered sex offenders. I also was chairperson of the Visor Regional Users Group, with specific responsibility for improving the management and scrutiny of sex offenders across a number of police forces across the north west.As a senior investigating officer, I also led a number of major investigations relating to offences against children and vulnerable people as the senior investigating officer successfully. A significant part of my responsibility was developing and improving force policy towards safeguarding vulnerable people, particularly children and young people.

Merseyside

A variety of Operational policing roles in uniform and CID up to the rank of Chief Inspector in Liverpool. Ultimately, I was responsible for community and response policing in a diverse multi-cultural community setting in south Liverpool. My responsibilities extended to developing new partnerships with local third sector and public service providers and in overseeing the neighbourhood policing approach across the south of the city. My portfolio included leading the response policing service across south Liverpool, which oversaw management of offenders under our integrated offender management programme.
