Sinclair is a neighborhood school that has a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and Communications emphasis that selectively also accepts students from other elementary schools who apply to be part of that emphasis.- Achieved 99% passing rate on 2015-16 STARR. test.- Achieved top ranking for overall student growth as part of the District’s Aspire Program.- Chosen Team Leader for 5th Grade Team that is selected to support school administrators with school’s programs and development plans.- Rated every year with the top “highly effective” rating by HISD Appraisers both as a 5th Grade Teacher and previously as a 4th Grade Teacher.

4th Grade Math Teacher (2011 – 2015)Decided to return to the classroom and the challenges of attempting to get students to buy into the necessary rigor of mathematical drills in a computer-age learning environment. Instructed three sections of 60-70 total students daily in Math (and Social Studies).- Selected 2013-14 HISD Elementary Teacher of the Year from among 15,000 teachers.- Initiated new routine for students to track their own progress by collecting, analyzing and interpreting performance data in special binders called iBinders in order to proactively improve their academic growth.- Developed annual intensive math drill week called “Camp Wannapass” to prepare for STARR. test, which transformed the classroom into a camp environment filled with camp-like activities to inspire concentrated fun-filled math experiences for test preparation.- Engendered close collaboration with parents including a weekly newsletter to keep them informed and to encourage their involvement with positive parenting plus special Math Night information events to prepare them for the annual testing experience.- Innovated numerous daily fun math drills to reinforce math learning through such routines as “Mad Minutes” (one minute multiplication drills) and daily “Bell Ringer” math problems to solve.

Relocated to this 32,000 population community approximately 16 miles east of Houston as a Professional School Counselor initially in Cobb Elementary and eventually at the larger Harvey Brown Elementary school. Both schools served a diverse, but predominantly lower income Hispanic population.Professional School Counselor – Harvey Brown Elementary (2005 – 2011)Promoted to provide classroom and individual guidance and counseling for approximately 1,000 K-5 students.- Served as TAKS/Testing Coordinator and GT Testing Coordinator.- Selected to Faculty Advisory Committee to help with school budgets, improvements, curriculum and plans.- Served on Site-Based Committee for Title 1 Special Education Pre-Referral Chairperson for SIT Committee Chair.- Developed student Peer Mediation Program to help students resolve conflicts and solve other problems.- Developed and trained School-Parent Compacts/Liaisons through monthly meetings to develop parenting skills for being a better parent.Notable Achievements- Designed and implemented classroom based Character Education Program.- Developed peer mentoring program for retained students (Reading and Learning with Friends) with tutoring of younger students.- Implemented in coordination with the District Testing Coordinator TAKS testing guidelines, training, accountability and security standards for test administrators and developed streamlined record keeping and test tracking for campus of approximately 1,000 students.

After completing Bachelor Degree in 1987, began teaching career as a 4th and 5th grade teacher for seven years with Beauregard Parish School in DeRidder, Louisiana. Had a short period in the private sector before becoming a School Counselor for St. Louis Catholic High School in Lake Charles and then the school’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction as an Assistant Principal during the last two years before relocating to Channelview to pursue the career described above.
