Participated in two research projects; first project focused on correcting National Weather Service's Climate Stations across the United States by comparing their geographic location between two data sets. The two data sets that were used had been prepared by government organizations; the first data set was prepared by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) and the second by National Weather Service. The second project focused on previous research by a current research climatologist who worked with soil moisture measurements and created a model that displayed predicted measurements for various geographic locations. The primary goal for the project was to determine how accurate the model read the measurements by comparing the readings with actual measured values from climate stations; the geographic location used for this study was Dekalb, IL. I was also trained to be an assistant to the service climatologist, where I answered phone calls and emails concerning a wide range of topics. Those topics included perspective clients that wanted to create an account for the in-house climate database, MRCC Applied Climate System (MACS) or various law firms and businesses that wanted specific weather data. General Skills used for this internship were: -Basic computer programming in Python and MatLab-Basic Microsoft Offices programs such as Excel, Access, Outlook, and Word-Used Linux/Unix operating systems creating new databases for weather data
