I work as a Technical Director for Coasts and Oceans Group at HR Wallingford and have been there since starting as a Technical Assistant in 1987 (!). This was after completing my Physics degree at the University of Essex. My skills and experience (gleaned almost entirely on the job) are in estuarine and coastal hydrodynamic and sediment transport modelling. I've 25 years' expertise of applying the TELEMAC suite of modelling tools. My career path has also led me to be involved in, for example, EIA supporting coastal process studies for which I have written the relevant chapters in the documentation. For a few years TELEMAC took me around the world in supplying training though I've now passed that responsibility on - much to my family's relief. The tidal River Thames and Estuary has been a particular area of interest due to the large number of projects I've done there including London Gateway Port, Thames Tideway Tunnel, Tilbury2 and a plethora of smaller jetty and dredging studies.After 35 years I am still interested in estuary processes, in particular where they meet human interventions.

  I study the hydrodynamics, sediment transport and morphology of estuaries and coastal seas, typically asking the question how these processes will change after a development or change in management and understanding the consequences of these changes. I am also interested in linking the physical process modelling with ecological aspects - such as fish and birds.
